Tortworth Estate

Tortworth is a diverse privately owned rural estate in South Gloucestershire, located at the northern gateway to The West of England. The estate extends to 4,500 acres encompassing woodland, a registered parkland and lakes, a farm shop, tenanted and in hand farmland, quarrying, commercial and residential property.

The Moreton family are the current custodians whose home it has been since the 1620’s. Their ambition is to work in partnership with the local community, stakeholders and businesses across the estate helping to maintain the area as a vibrant place to live and work in whilst making space for and respecting the natural environment.

Latest Updates

The Estate’s outline application for land at Longcross, Cromhall has now been submitted to South Gloucestershire Council.

This application is for the principle of development for up to 50 new homes, community facilities, a site for a replacement primary school and green space. The actual details of the application (appearance, landscaping, layout and scale) will be refined through a subsequent ‘Reserved Matters’ Application.

People can still comment on the application by now following the Council’s own consultation process. This can be done by visiting the council at https://beta.southglos.gov.uk/search-planning-applications/ and entering the reference number ref. P24/02732/O

Our Estate grown CHRISTMAS TREES will be on sale from Friday 29th November 2024. Freshly cut, sustainably grown, Norway Spruce & reduced drop Nordmann Fir trees will be on sale at Tortworth Estate Yard, GL12 8HF. We're also your one-stop shop for firewood, kindling, mistletoe, holly, tree stands, wreaths, planted Christmas pots and more! Opening times: 9am-5pm Saturdays, 10am – 4pm Sundays and 8.30am – 4pm on weekdays. Please note we will be closed all day on Sunday 22nd December. We look forward to seeing you soon!

FIREWOOD

Tortworth Lake

Tortworth Lake is private with no rights of access. The estate however welcomes the public to enjoy this special place on the first Sunday of each month from February to October only. Opening times are:-

February, March, September & October: 10:00am - 5:00pm
April, May, June, July & August: 10:00am - 6:00pm

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances Opening Times may vary. For updates on any changes, please check the estate’s Facebook site.

Local clubs and charities have for many years been selling refreshments on the open Sundays, helping raise funds towards their running costs. These have included, Tortworth, Cromhall and Charfield primary schools, RNLI, SARA, Charfield Junior Football Club, Mind Café and Castle School Thornbury.

Holiday Cottages

The estate has four holiday cottages offering a great base to explore the Cotswolds, Bristol, Bath and The Wye Valley, or simply to shut the door and enjoy the countryside on your doorstep.

Open Farm Sunday

Managed by Linking Environment And Farming OFS is one of the farming industry’s biggest success stories and something the estate is passionate about supporting. It is a great opportunity to come and say hello to the local producers whose supply the estate farm shop or get a tractor and trailer ride to meet some of the estate’s organic dairy cows and get an insight in to how we farm.
